Information for Citizens of the "Old Confederacy"

 

A Pictorial Tour Of The First White House of the Confederacy in Montgomery, Alabama.

The First White House located across from the Historic Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery, Alabama. The Capitol is where President Jefferson Davis was sworn in as the 1st President of the Confederate States of America. A bronze star still marks the historic spot where he stood.

This photo shows the entrance foyer of the house. The mahogany couch under the portrait of Mr. Davis belonged to Pres. Davis while the Confederate Government was in Montgomery.

The first parlor has cornices over the windows that were used by the Davis's at Brierfield Plantation near Vicksburg, Ms.

The Dining Room has a Reed and Barton 1790 silver service used at Beauvior by the Davis family. The Moss Rose china in the corner cabinet was used by the Davis family.

The President's Study has the small round table at which President Davis wrote the "The Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government". The mahogany plantation desk was used by Mr. Davis in Montgomery, Richmond, and at Brierfield. In the case on the right are the original lace curtains which Mrs. Davis gave for use in this house.

All the articles in this room belonged to President Davis. They were given to the White House Association by Mrs. Davis and placed according to a diagram she made.
